New team shorts, Halloween, and more!
Congratulations to those of you who made it to this morning’s training. My lie-in was cut short by building works next door, obviously karma telling me that paddling would have been the better option… Anyway, a few messages from me.
Yesterday, you may have noticed Adrian brandishing a very attractive pair of new (and essentially padded) British Team shorts. These can be acquired for the princely sum of $40. Should you want a pair, make sure you try them on first and let Adrian (firstname.lastname@example.org) and/or Kenny (email@example.com) know your interest ASAP in time for you to be suited and booted, or shorted and sorted as the case may be, for the upcoming Boat Quay race.
And now, a social event or four for your calendars:
Friday 30th October – David Brill, writer and self-acknowledged sometime paddler, will be leaving Singapore for Sydney in two weeks time. His leaving party is at Orgo, on the roof of the Esplanade, from 8 – 10.30 ish, before heading to Butter Factory. For anyone planning to attend the whole shebang, the theme is ‘Mustafa Chic’ – i.e. anything you can find in the Mustafa Centre is fair game. Please let Dave know if you’re intending to come (always good to have approximate numbers to work with: firstname.lastname@example.org).
Saturday 31 October – Halloween Party
One of our lovely Social Secretaries, Nicky (and PLEASE email her NOW at email@example.com to let her know whether you’re attending), is coordinating a post-paddling Halloween Party at Paul’s from 8.30 onwards.
Dressing up is mandatory, instructions are BYOB and nibbles. If you’re out of ideas in the costumes department, here are 2 places which will help you unleash that inner Rosemary’s Baby:
No 1 costume costume pte ltd
7 Jalan Lembah Kallang (They have moved recently – Thanks Rob!)
Operating hours: 10.30am to 8pm
26 Bali Lane
Operating hours: Mon – Fri: 11am to 6.30pm
Sat: 11am to 5.30pm
Sun : 2pm to 5pm
Sunday 1 November – David Gooey, friend of many a British Team paddler, is heading back to Melbourne and will be having afternoon drinks at the Shack on Sentosa if you want to help him spend his final hours in Singapore agreeably.
Saturday 7 November – Boat Naming Sausage Sizzle
Since quite a few paddlers were away when new British Dragon Boats Melanie and Jenny were launched, now is the time to make amends. Again, PLEASE email Nicky NOW at firstname.lastname@example.org to let her know whether you’re attending. There WILL be beer provided (but if you want to BYOB to spice up the proceedings then please do) and I think it’ll be a token $10 for food provided.
That’s it from me and see you at training, Rebecca
