If you are racing in the MR500 to be held for the first time on Marina Bay here is your complete guide to the upcoming weekend:
1) MR500 DETAILS
Date: Weekend of 19th and 20th March
Reporting Time: Saturday at 08.00am (report to the British Dragons marquee)
Location: Waterfront at Singapore Flyer
MRT: Promenade MRT (Circle Line – 10 mins walk)
Parking: Marina Square or Singapore Flyer
2) UPON ARRIVAL
Please report to Mel and pay your $50 (if you haven’t paid already). This covers race entries, personal registration and photo ID race tag, water and 100 Plus drinks on both days, lunch and beer on the Saturday and the team dinner/celebrations at Red Dot (Dempsey) on the Sunday evening. You will be given a photo ID tag which you will need to wear all weekend (if lost the organisers will charge you for a replacement).
If you are running late or have any “problem” call Mel before 08.00am on the Saturday.
3) TEAM ELEGANCE AND DEMEANOR
All team members must be wearing a team racing shirt and team bandana (or cap) in order to race. Kenny will have supplies for purchase on race days if you need a last-minute item. No other shirts or headwear are acceptable. Please remember that footwear is compulsory in the boats. And limit valuables to essentials for the weekend as our marquee will not be fully secure.
Times and line-ups for races are subject to constant change so always:
- Know which event you’re competing in (look at the posted team boat layouts);
- Stay close to the team marquee;
- Let the Committee know your whereabouts at all times when NOT close to the team marquee.
The weekend is often very stressful for the Captains so please defer to their judgment and directions on the day and uphold the usual British stiff upper lip and resolve at all times. If you have any feedback for the Captains then please feel free to share it at the appropriate time (which is usually after the race weekend).
4) PRE-RACE NUTRITION
Very important: Captains request that you eat well in the coming week. Carb load the night before the race (pasta, rice, etc.), get plenty of protein and make sure you bring along your Berocca, Energy Gels or lucky Rabbit’s foot to chew on too. Also have a hearty breakfast before setting out as it’s probably unwise to base your gold medal hopes on half a slice of white toast and a quick gulp of instant coffee…
Sunblock? Oh yes, you’ll need plenty of that too! And make sure you hydrate well before and during the weekend.
5) POT LUCK SUNDAY
Sunday is “Pot Luck Lunch” so please plan to bring along nutritious food to share with your team mates.
6) TEAM DINNER
This will be held at RedDot (Dempsey) at 7.30pm on Sunday 20th March. The default meal is Fish and Chips but if you want a different choice (from a selection of 6) then complete the online form (further down this page).
Please wear your drinking shirt and bring along your team membership card to the team dinner.
Let’s bling it on this weekend! Marina Bay here we come. Go British Dragons!!!
