Please note that due to the SDBA/AustCham !0Km Race there will be NO TRAINING on Saturday 25th August and Sunday 26th August 2012.
Training will resume at Farrer Park Pool at 7.00pm on Wednesday 29th August 2012.
The Captains remind all paddlers that if you have signed up for the SAVA Sprints then you MUST make yourself available for training on the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of September 2012.
Many paddlers have signed up to compete in the SAVA Sprints and whilst we have a very strong “core” crew some other paddlers have attended training only infrequently and this is undermining some of the race boat formations and jeopardising boat entries.
2) AUSTCHAM 10KM CHALLENGE – RACERS
The race is to be held at Kallang this Saturday 25th August 2012.
If you are registered in the crew to race then please assemble at the cage at 12.45pm for crew briefing.
Registration will be at 1.00pm and the race is scheduled to start at 2.00pm
The Captains remind all racers to eat, hydrate and rest well in the next 48 hours. Come along with energy gels, rehydration salts, etc. and remember to hydrate suffiently on the morning and just before the race as we will not be taking drinking water onto the race boat (except for a litre of emergency supply).
3) AUSTCHAM 10KM CHALLENGE – SUPPORTERS AND AFTER-PARTY
27 boats are due to take part in this gruelling challenge of paddling non-stop around a 10Km course from Kallang to Marina Bay and back.
If you are not racing then please come along to give support to the team and to join along for VB beers on the beach afterwards and the fabulous After-Party at Molly Malone’s at Boat Quay.
The boats will flag-off at 2.00pm on Saturday from the shore near the new Stadium site. The best spectating area will be from the SDBA pontoons which are adjacent to the Merdeka Bridge (on Stadium Road). This will give a good view of what is likely to be a hectic start as the boats jostle for position.
The course will then see the boats race towards Marina Barrage and then head into Marina Bay. On the return the boats will pass in front of Marina Bay Sands then head to the Marina Barrage again before heading to the finish line at the Merdeka Bridge.
Once the race is completed we will have the medal ceremony and VB Beers on the beach at Kallang for an hour and then at 4.00pm we will head to Molly Malone’s Pub at Boat Quay (Raffles Place is the nearest MRT) for the After-Party which will continue until midnight (and maybe beyond).
Everyone wearing a 2012 10K Race Shirt will receive a FREE first beer at Molly Malone’s (trust me – they’ll deserve it!).
Buckets of 5 VB beers will be sold at $40 each. Food and beverages will be offered at a 15% discount. There will also be a special BBQ menu for those attending the party. Pre-booked buses have been laid on from Kallang to Molly Malone’s but if any seats are free supporters may be able to take them up – otherwise it is only a few stops on the MRT from Kallang to Raffles Place.

4) AN AMAZING RACE IS PLANNED

Think you know Singapore?
Well put your knowledge to the test with the British Dragon’s Amazing Race 2012. After last year’s race around Boat quay we’ll be exploring a different part of the city!
This social event will be held at 4.00pm on Saturday 15th September (a respite from training as this will be the weekend after the SAVA Sprints)
Teams will take to the streets of Singapore to solve clues, complete challenges and get all competititve (as usual!).
It will be a two-hour challenge so there will be plenty of time for drinks and food afterwards. Full details will be released closer to the date – we wouldn’t want anyone to be cheating already…

5) SAVA SPRINTS RACE DINNER REGISTRATION
If you are taking part in the SAVA Sprints on the 8th and 9th of September then the Team Race Dinner on Sunday 9th September 2012 is included in your race fee.
The Team Race Dinner will be held at RedDot – Dempsey at 8.00pm on the Sunday evening (as the race is at Lower Seletar Reservoir).
You can select from a menu of nine delicious recipes – but you must register for the meal before midnight on Tuesday 4th September:
If you do not register for a meal then it will be assumed that you do not wish to eat and no dish will be provided for you (well you might still get a dish but there won’t be any food on it!).
Supporters and guests can also come along to the Team Race Dinner ($30 per head – simply use the online dinner registration form to book for each person and pay Pam or Natalia at training). As always, for the Team Race Dinner please wear your Drinking shirt.
