1) POOL TRAINING TAKES TO DRY LAND
Training will take place on Wednesday 5th September at 7.00pm outside Farrer Park Swimming Complex.
This will be land training so you do not need to bring your paddle. But do come wearing shorts and trainers as we will be gearing up for the SAVA Sprints with some special routines to complement our Kallang training! Please change before arrival as we will not have access to the pool changing areas (as the pool is in use for a private event).
Afterwards we will head out locally for supper.
By the way, if you are free to come down a little earlier, at 6.30pm, then please do so. We expect to have a delegation of local government officials from Guangzhou visiting the team to exchange gifts, formally invite us to one of their dragon boat festivals in China and to learn more about the British Dragons. So it would be great if they could get the chance to meet some of our team members when they drop by. Plus it offers a useful chance for all of us to practice our Mandarin…
2) SAVA SPRINTS COMPLETE RACE GUIDE
Here is your guide to the upcoming SAVA Sprints International VIII:
Date: ….. Weekend of 8th and 9th September 2011
Reporting Time: ….. Saturday at 07.30am (report to the British Dragons tent)
Location: ….. Lower Seletar Reservoir
Getting there: ….. Khatib MRT on the North/South line (then a 15 minute walk to race site or bus from opposite the MRT)
Upon arrival please report to Mel and pay your $50 (if you have not done so already). This covers race entries, personal registration and photo ID race tag, water and 100 Plus drinks on both days, sandwich lunch and beers on the Saturday and the team dinner at Red Dot (Dempsey) on the Sunday evening.
You will be given a photo ID tag which you will need to wear all weekend (if lost or forgotten the organisers will charge you $30 for a replacement).
If you are running late or have any “problem” please advise Philip before 07.30am on the Saturday.
All team members must be wearing a team racing shirt and team bandana (or cap) in order to race. No other shirts or headwear are acceptable. Team shorts (or dark blue or black variants) are also required. If you need kit for the race (or dinner) then email your order to Gill at:
Remember that footwear is compulsory in the boats. Please limit valuables to essentials for the weekend as our marquee will not be fully secure.
Times and line-ups for races are subject to constant change so always:
- Know which event you’re competing in (look at the posted team boat layouts);
- Stay close to the team marquee;
- Let the Committee know your whereabouts at all times when NOT close to the team marquee.
Please eat well in the coming week. Carb load the night before the race (pasta, rice, etc.), get plenty of protein and make sure you bring along your choice of Berocca, Hydration Salts, Energy Gels, Bananas etc. Also have a hearty breakfast before setting out so that you will be in good shape for the all-important first heats (if we fail to qualify in those then of course we will just sit empty- handed on the shore all weekend watching other teams step onto the podium…)
Remember to bring plenty of sunblock and water along to the event and please make sure that you hydrate well before and during the weekend.
Sunday is our traditional “Pot Luck Lunch” so please plan to bring along plenty of nutritious food to share with your team mates.
Our Team Dinner will be held at RedDot (Dempsey) at 8.00pm on Sunday 9th September.

Supporters or guests can also be registered for the meal (at $30 per head payable to Natalia or Pam). If you do not register a meal choice then it will be concluded that you do not wish to eat and no meal will be provided for you.
Please wear your drinking shirt for the Team Dinner and do remember to bring along your team membership card so that you can enjoy your member discount (and also ensure that our team rebates are garnered accordingly).
Finally, please familiarise yourself with the whereabouts of the race site and be punctual for each day of racing – late arrivals can cause a lot of stress for the Captains and may even jeopardise a race boat entry.
3) TRAINING BREAK AFTER SAVA SPRINTS
There will be NO TRAINING sessions on:
Wednesday 12th September 2012
Saturday 15th September 2012
Sunday 16th September 2012
Wednesday 19th September 2012
This is to give a break after SAVA Sprints for the team to recharge.
Training will recommence at Kallang on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
4) STILL TIME TO SIGN UP FOR AN AMAZING RACE
There’s still time to register for this special event to be held at 4.00pm on Saturday 15th September 2012
This will be a two-hour, land-based, treasure-hunt style of competitive challenge between small teams of British Dragons and there will be plenty of time for drinks, food and, of course, prizes afterwards! The event last year proved to be terrific fun and we’re promised that this year will be even better and will be set in a new location in Singapore too.
