1) SINGAPORE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL RACE GUIDE
Here is your complete guide to the upcoming race weekend:
Date: ….. Weekend of 11th and 12th July 2015
Reporting Time: ….. Saturday at 08.00am (report to the British Dragons marquee)
Location: ….. Bedok Reservoir
Map: ….. www.nparks.gov.sg/cms/index.php?option=com_visitorsguide&task=parks&id=6&Itemid=73
The race site is near the watersports buildings just before you get to the “Forest Adventure” location at the South East corner of the Bedok Reservoir Park (bottom right of the map). There is a carpark there on Bedok Reservoir Road (facing Bedok Reservoir View).
The nearest MRT is Bedok (on the East-West Green Line) though it is not easily walkable from there (several Km away).
I understand that Buses 5,18,21,22,28,59,65,67,69,168 go there (but please confirm). Alight bus stop no 75349 “the Clearwater condo” if you are coming from Tampines Avenue 1 or bus stop no 75341 “opposite Clearwater condo” if you are coming from Bedok North Road.
If you are driving take the PIE Changi, Exit 6 Bedok North Avenue 3. Turn left on Bedok North Av 3 and turn right at the traffic light on Bedok Reservoir Road. Drive 70m and turn left into Carpark “A” situated on Bedok Reservoir Road, opposite Aquarius Condominium.
However you are coming please look at the map ahead of time and familiarise yourself with the area. Do not let a Taxi take you to the wrong reservoir or the wrong place at Bedok Reservoir.
Upon arrival please report to Fabien and pay your $40 race fee (if you have not done so already). This covers race entries, personal registration and photo ID race tag, water and 100 Plus drinks on both days, lunch and beer on the Saturday and the team dinner at London – Boat Quay on the Sunday evening.You will be given a photo ID tag which you will need to wear all weekend (if lost the organisers will charge you $50 for a replacement).
If you are running late or have any “problem” please advise Philip before 08.00am.
The early start is essential as we are in early heats on both days and need sufficient time for warm-ups, visualisations and registration formalities with the organisers. As always on race weekends, all paddlers who are competing are expected to be on hand throughout the weekend and should not leave at the end of the day until released to do so by the Captains.All team members must be wearing a team racing shirt and team bandana (or cap) in order to race. We will have some supplies for purchase on race days if you need a last-minute item. No other shirts or headwear are acceptable. Remember that footwear is compulsory in the boats. Please limit valuables to essentials for the weekend as our marquee will not be fully secure.
Times and line-ups for races are subject to constant change so always:
- Know which event you’re competing in (look at the posted team boat layouts);
- Stay close to the team marquee;
- Let the Committee know your whereabouts at all times when NOT close to the team marquee.
The weekend is often very stressful for the Captains so please defer to their judgment and directions on the day and uphold the usual British team spirit and upbeat resolve to win at all times. If you have any feedback for the Captains then please feel free to share it at the appropriate time (which is usually after the race weekend).
The Captains request that you eat well in the coming few days. Carb load the night before the race (pasta, rice, etc.), get plenty of protein and make sure you bring along your choice of Berocca, Hydration Salts, Energy Gels etc. Also have a hearty breakfast before setting out so that you will be in good shape for the all-important first heats.
Remember to bring sunblock and water along to the event and please make sure that you hydrate well before and during the weekend.
Saturday is our traditional “Pot Luck Lunch” so please plan to bring along nutritious food to share with the team. As a rule of thumb, Pot Luck items usually arrive in the sort of containers that you will then take home, wash and put back in the cupboard afterwards. Decanting a tube of Pringles or a bag of Doritos into your favourite Tupperware box doesn’t really cut it (though of course you are welcome to bring such items as additional snacks!).
Salads, quiche, pizzas, baked items, cheeses, breads, cuts of meat, dips, etc. are all very useful to make up a good buffet spread on Saturday lunchtime. Your Pot Luck contributions will be very much appreciated by the Social Secretaries (and indeed by all the hungry paddlers).
All supporters and guests are very welcome to join us at any time over the weekend at Bedok Reservoir. Even if you are not racing but have an hour or two free then do drop by and say hello!
