- We've had paddlers from 10-60 in our boats of both sexes and all nationalities but as dragon boating involves some muscular and aerobic activity you do need to be in reasonably good health to paddle. (N.B. If you're not fit, this is a great way to get fit!)
- You should be able to swim at least 50 metres (although we hope we never have to put this to the test)
- Life Jackets must be worn (We have team ones available).
- You will get wet (it is a splashy sport) but you shouldn't have to swim! In the very, very unlikely event of the boat capsizing, stay with the boat.
- Email us to let us know that you're coming, and look at the map Location MAP
- Come to the right place - tell the taxi driver The Kallang Riverside Park on Stadium Road, Kallang. A number of other teams meet here and around the corner so please check you're with the right team before you get in a boat! We are usually around the boat area on the other side from the park by our storage cage.
- Please try to be punctual so we have time to show you what to do before we get on the boat. Usual start time is 3.45pm. Check the Home Page for any events that might change that.
- $10 per session currently covers boat hire; coach (the human type) and some refreshments.
- You will get wet but you shouldn't have to swim! In the very very unlikely event of the boat capsizing, stay with the boat. If you are concerned, ask in advance and you can borrow a life jacket.
- Most people wear shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt in the boat. Only wear stuff you're happy to get soaked in sea water. Old sandals, reef shoes or wetsuit booties are a good idea as they are sometime sharp bits in and around the beach area.
- There are showers available at the SDBA Club House or the public toilets at the Kallang Riverside Park; not posh or warm but they get the salt off so you might want to bring a towel and a change of clothes.
- If it's sunny, bring an appropriate factor sun cream. Caps and shades are worn but not your Gucci's in case they fall in!
- Always bring a bottle of water.
- Try to limit the number of valuables you bring. Bags can be locked in our storage cage.
- If it rains we still paddle (you're going to get wet anyway) so still come down.
- We will not go out though if there is lightning as it makes our Cox very nervous. (Something to do with being the highest point standing at the back of the boat!)
